Daniele Luchetti’s MY BROTHER IS AN ONLY CHILD is a look back at Italy in the 1960’s and 70’s through the prism of a family, specifically through the lives of two brothers Accio and Manrico. Accio joins the Fascists, but is it because Manrico is a Communist? The fate of the brothers is complicated by the fact that Accio goes after Manrico’s girlfriend Francesca.
This is such a lovely film from writer/director Daniele Luchetti, nostalgic perhaps, but with that indefinable Italian whimsy that takes serious political themes and undermines them beautifully.
There are some exquisite performances, not least by ANGELA FINOCCHIARO as the boys’ impassioned mother.
ELIO GERMANO as Accio is the core of the film, he takes you into the adolescent nature of his character, into the craziness of the times, the frustrations. RICCARDO SCAMARCIO as Manrico is so charismatic, making the most of his charm in his political world.
My Brother is An Only Child is one of those films that draws you in gradually to a world, a family, at a specific time, that actually transcends that time.

Den italienske kulturforeningen i Stavanger skal ha julebord den 15.Desember kl.19:30 på restauranten Amici.
Festen er for alle medlemmer. Det er en stor hjelp hvis dere melde dere på via email, så at vi kan bestille en meny, hvis det blir for mange.

Making Gomorrah must take it out of you. All that gunfire, all that bloodshed. All those death threats, all the trekking round the globe to collect awards. So director Matteo Garrone (here producing) and writer Gianni Di Gregorio (here also directing and starring) can be forgiven for slowing things down for their follow-up. Mid-August Lunch is the story of Gianni (Di Gregorio), is a bachelor who lives with his mother Valeria (Valeria de Franciscis) in their small Rome flat. It's the midsummer bank holiday and most families have left the sticky city for the coast. The apartment block caretaker, Luigi, is keen to follow suit, but he, too, has an elderly mamma to care for. In return for some waived utility bills, Gianni agrees to take her overnight. Yet when Luigi shows up an hour later with wheezy Marina (Marina Cacciotti), an even older sister, Maria (Maria Calì), is in tow, too. No matter: a small bundle of euros and Gianni is making up another spare bed.Mid-August Lunch is a film of rare benevolence that treats its subjects with dignity and playfulness. The only professional actor here is Di Gregorio; of the women, one is his aunt, another a friend, two were scouted in a care home.

Il Divo tegner et satirisk portrett av den omstridte italienske politikeren Giulio Andreotti - statsminister i flere omganger - og hans allianser på kryss og tvers i et gjennomkorrumpert Italia. Starten av filmen overøser deg med så mye informasjon om nyere italiensk historie, navn og allianser at det er umulig å holde oversikten. Du må bare gi deg over og la deg rive med av regissør Sorrentinos visuelle kraft og hans suverene bruk av musikk.
I kontrast til filmens barokke uttrykk trer den lavmælte hovedpersonen Andreotti frem som en kompleks og tvetydig person. Han trekker i maktens korrumperte tråder til mafia og kirke med en mimikkløs lidenskap som er skremmende, fascinerende og gåtefull. I maktens sentrum er det uhyggelig ensomt.
